The Dragons may only have been formed in 1998 but they can claim a long history due to been formed from the merger of the St George Dragons (formed 1921) and the Illawarra Steelers (former 1982).
The new club is based Wollongong although they have league clubs in both Wollongong and Kogarah and play their home matches in both of these suburbs of Sydney.
The Dragons have a large fan base in the UK thanks to having taken place in the World Club Challenge and they have a big affinity for fans of St Helens due to also playing in a mainly white strip featuring a large red vee.
