2019 Australian Open

The 2019 Australian Open is a professional tennis tournament on both the men’s ATP Tour and the women’s WTA Tour where it is one of just 4 Grand Slams that make up the leading tournaments on both tours.

The 2018 edition of the Aus Open is the 107th edition and the 51st of the Open era. The action will take place at the impressive Melbourne Park complex between the 14–27 January 2019.

The matches take place on a mixture of indoor and outdoor courts with hard (plexicushion) services and in 2019 their are new protocols to deal with heat that could lead to longer breaks for both men and women.

This is the first ever Aus Open to feature final set tie breaks, which will be introduced in all formats of the competition and on both the men’s and women’s side of the draw. That means that if the match goes to 6-6 in the final set, the winner will be the first player to score 10 points with a 2 point lead.

Roger Federer is the reigning and defending champion on the men’s ATP side of the draw. He will face a challenge from seeded players including Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Kevin Anderson, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori, John Isner, Karen Khachanov, Borna Coric, Fabio Fognini, Kyle Edmund, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Milos Raonic, Diego Scwartzman, Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin and Gael Monfils.

Caroline Wozniacki is the reigning and defending champion on the women’s WTA side of the draw. She will face a challenge from seeded players including Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, Sloane Stephens, Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova, Karolina Pliskova, Kiki Bertens, Elise Mertens, home favourite Ashleigh Barty, Serena Williams, Madison keys, Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Garcia and Maria Sharapova.
