WTA World Tour Live Streaming

The WTA World Tour (Women’s Tennis Association) is the main tour for women on the world tennis circuit with the WTA acting as the governing body for all major tennis tournaments on the women’s tour.

Watch WTA Tennis

The WTA Tour grew from the inaugural Virginia Slims tournament back in the early 1970’s and to say that the tour has gone from humble beginnings to arguably been the biggest and most influential tour for females sports stars could be an understatement.

Originally the tour consisted of 9 players known as the Original 9 that included Julie Heldman, Valerie Ziegenfuss, Judy Dalton, Kristy Pigeon, Peaches Bartkowicz, Kerry Melville Reid, Nancy Richey, and Rosie Casals. Since then the tour has grown to featuring over 2,500 players from over 100 countries and with nearly $150,000,000 in prize fund.

The tour is now split into a number of different levels of tournaments, some which all players who qualify have to play in and some that are optional but the main goal for all players is to make it through to the end of season finals known as the WTA Finals.

The current levels of tournaments are:

WTA Premier Tournaments: These are further split into Premier Mandatory, Premier 5 and regular Premier events with the majority of top players playing in these tournaments with as you would expect it all of the top stars required to play at the Premier mandatory events.

WTA Internationals: These are for up and coming players and those struggling to compete at the top level which sees a good mixed of experience stars and youngsters.

The Fed Cup: This is organised by the ITF and features the top players for each country playing together in singles and doubles in a team event.

WTA Finals: This is for the top 8 ranked singles competitors and the top 8 ranked doubles partnerships who meet head to head to determine the top player(s).
