The Allsvenskan, also known as the Fotbollsallsvenskan, is the top flight football league in Sweden and acts as the main qualification process for European competitions and it is also the method of determining the champions of Sweden, with the team to finish in first place in the league picking up the title.

Format
The format of the Swedish top flight is a relatively straight forward round-robin table set up where each club plays each other home and away during the season.
The team to have the most points after all of the matches are completed, the club that finishes top of the table are declared the league winners.
The teams that finish in last and 2nd to bottom are automatically relegated to the Swedish 2nd tier, whilst the club who finishes 3rd from bottom in the top tier have to face the team to finish in 3rd place of the 2nd tier in a relegation play-off.
Unlike the majority of top tier competitions in Europe, the Swedish season runs from March to November and that allows fans of other leagues to watch the action during the summers months here there is often little top football to be seen.
