RB Leipzig, full name RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V., are for some a fairy-tale team who have rose from obscurity to become a top team in German and one looking to make inroads as a side challenging in European Cup competitions whilst for others they are a team that highlight all of the things wrong with modern football as they are just a commercial vehicle to promote their owners, the Red Bull energy drink company.
As with most things in life there is a little bit truth in both and lots of exaggeration in both 2. One thing that we can say certain is that Leipzig have recruited well, come up through the ranks in Germany and now they have shown they belong at the very top of the European game. Love them or loathe them, one other thing we can say is that RB Leipzig are a very attractive team to watch and that is exactly what you can do via our live streaming partners.
Each and every RB Leipzig match from both the Bundesliga (the top flight football league in Germany) and the DFB Pokal (Germany version of the FA Cup) are available to watch live online, 100% safely and 100% legally.
RB Leipzig, incredibly, were only established in 2009 and since then they have only known success. Much of that success has been built around buying young and hungry talent and it was that philosophy that drew the attention of UK fans as RB Leipzig bought Scotland’s Oliver Burke from Nottingham Forest.
As you would expect from such a young club, the clubs home ground, the Red Bull Arena is a modern stadium built to high standards which is known for its great atmosphere.
What Can We Watch?

Red Bull Leipzig
If you are only a casual fan of German football and/or European football in general, you very well may never have heard of RB Leipzig, or Red Bull Leipzig as they are also known as.
That is because the club have basically come from nowhere to quickly becoming a powerhouse of the Bundesliga and they are quickly making a name for themselves on the European stage.
When we say that the club have come from nowhere, that is much more literal than you would expect as whilst that is often what is said from long standing clubs who win a few promotions to battle above their weight with much bigger clubs, ala Wimbledon and Wigan in the English game, Leipzig have taken that to a whole new level.
The Red Bull company, known for their energy drinks and F1 team, have started to buy and develop football clubs across the club and it was decided that the German Bundesliga was a good target for them.
Having tried to buy a few different clubs, they decided on buying the playing right of a 5th tier club in Germany called SSV Markranstadt and from there the basically new club of RB Leipzig grew.
Not only did the club change location, the brand new and purpose built Red Bull Arena but they also changed the name of the club, the RB Leipzig (RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V., to give the club their full title and a name chosen to get around sponsorship rules) and the changed there playing kits colours to match the Red Bull company Red and White colour scheme.
From there they have won title after title and promotion after promotion to where they are now in the topflight and not just competition but they are challenge for titles and trophies and have qualified for the Champions League.
With the financial backing of the Red Bull company and with their rapid arrival at the top of the German game, that has led to a lot of controversy in a league that tends not to be as commercial as others and still has strong fan representation.
Some people think it is just jealousy of other teams fans for the backlash to what they have done whilst others think that it has basically been a form of financial doping but wherever you stand, you have to admire what they have done.
Whilst they could easily have simply spent there way to the top and to match the financial clout of the likes of Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig have decided to take a route of buying young talent from across the globe with huge potential and developing them into first team players.
Most importantly they are giving them the chance to impress on the biggest stage and so far that strategy is winning matches and plaudits- but perhaps not from rivals teams!
Never miss a RB Leipzig match again from either the Bundesliga or the DFB Pokal via our RB Leipzig live stream partners.
History
The history of RB is a short but fascinating one as it brought full commercialisation of a club into a major league for the first time in European football history as whilst the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Bayer Leverkusen have strong links to companies, they were not set up with the sole intention of promoting a product/brand.
That is what has happened at Leipzig as the sole intention of the club is to promote the Red Bull brand as it was the companies co-owner Dietrich Mateschitz who led the search for a club to take over in Germany to establish a new promotional tool for Red Bull GmbH.
After considering cities such as Hamburg, Munich, and Dusseldorf it was Leipzig that was selected as the FC Sachsen Leipzig club were in financial difficulties.
As the successor of the former East German champions BSG Chemie Leipzig, the club had a big but somewhat dormant fanbase to utilise.
At the time of the potential takeover, the club were playing in the Oberliga, the 4th tier of German football, but with the clubs plan of changing the name of the club to FC Red Bull Sachsen Leipzig rejected by the German FA and with fan protests turning violent, the company moved on.
The next club to come to their interest was FC St Pauli, which seemed a strange decision to all as the left-leaning fans of St Pauli were at the forefront of the protests over Red Bulls takeover of SV Austria Salzburg.
Once it moved from the original plans of a major sponsorship to a takeover, St Pauli ended discussions and Red Bull moved to TSV 1860 Munich.
Those discussions didn’t go far and the company then moved onto Fortuna Dusseldorf and after heavy protests once more, the board of the club turned down the finances of Red Bull.
The company then turned back towards Leipzig and as a large city, with a history of footballing success but one with no top tier club nearby, the attraction was clear.
The city also had a large airport, transportation and thanks to the 2006 World Cup, a large, modern stadium.
By 2008 when the company made their final move for a club, the decision was to search for a club if the 5th tier and therefore out of the control of the DFB who had scuppered all attempts at changing a clubs name to include Red Bull in it.
It was SSV Markranstadt, from a small town 13 kilometres from Leipzig, were chosen and just 5 weeks later, the club had sold out and RasenBallsport (meaning Lawn Ball Sports) Leipzig e.V. was formed and in ‘surprisingly’ there new name could be easily shortened to RB, or Red Bull.
The company invested heavily and it took only a few years to rise through the lower divisions of the footballing pyramid in Germany and by 2016, they had made it to the Bundesliga.
They made the step up look straight forward as the entered into the 2016/17 Champions League to become the first former East Germany team in the top flight to sit top of the table since 1991 and the first debutant to make it to Europe since German reunification.
Since then the club have continued to be amongst the best of the rest behind FC Bayern in the Bundesliga and a regular competitor in European competitions and they have developed a reputation for taking young up and coming stars rom across the globe and developing them into top players.
