Athletic Bilbao
Athletic Bilbao, alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona, have never been relegated from La Liga with Athletic Bilbao playing top flight football ever since 1929.
Founded in 1898, the club have had a long and fascinating history and uniquely the club will only sign and play players from the Basque region which means that the club have a huge emphasis on developing their own players.
Unsurprisingly the biggest rivals of Athletic Bilbao are Real Sociedad, another Basque team.
Known as Los Leones (The Lions) because there original stadium was built next to the San Mames (Saint Mammes) church named after an early Christian fed by the Romans to lions.
The clubs colours of red and whites stripes after a student from the city visited London and realised that Southampton’s colours matched the colours of the city of Bilboa. He brought 50 shirts back to the city with him and showed them to the cub and the rest as they say sis history.
Interestingly, 6 of the first 7 managers of Athletic Bilbao were English. Howard Kendell was the last English coach of Athletic Bilbao, ending his tenure in 1989.

Those strong links also means that they are well backed by the local population and regularly have some of the highest average attendances, not just in Spain, but throughout Europe.
That is also largely down to the investment they have made in their San Mames Stadium which the club have built from the ground up to create one of the great sporting venues in Spain.
The club have a long history, in fact they are one the founding members of Spanish football and they also are one of just 23 clubs to have never been relegated from the topflight in Spain who were there at the beginning (along with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid).
With titles and trophies so difficult to take away from the big 2 sides in Spain, it is a testament to the Bilbao club that they have been as successful as they have been. The club have won multiple La Liga titles, many Copa de Rey (Spanish version of the FA Cup) trophies as well as wins in the Supercopa de Espana and the Copa Eva Duarte.
The club have managed to qualifier for European action on a semiregular basis but they have struggled to turn that into success.
As a club who only have a limited talent pool from which to sign players, it has been the focus of the club throughout there history to develop there own players. That has led to a large complex in the municipality of Lezema, around 10 miles from Bilbao, which house the clubs training facilities as well as youth and reserve teams.
This was one of the leading training complexes in the game when first developed and the club are continually improving the facilities to keep them top of current standards.
