French Ligue 1

The recent foreign investment in teams such as Monaco and Paris St Germain has led to some of the biggest names (and transfer fees) been associated with the league and a return to success in European competition.

Since first been formed in 1932 as national, French top flight football may have gone through a number of name changes but it has remained the top flight competition in France and has had a reputation for been a combative league.

Ligue 1 is known for been strong defensively, which has led to some critics, but it also makes if different to many other European Leagues and exciting to those who like the competitive nature to matches.

Ligue 1 acts as both the method for determining the national champions each season but also as the main way for French clubs to enter European competitions including the Champions League and Europa League.

For a country with such large resources, big cities and good facilities the clubs in Ligue 1 haven’t been able to produce success on a European scale to the level you would expect but with crowds on the up and the resources of the bigger clubs ready to explode it surly can’t be long until the French Ligue 1 produces a club to win a European competition.

Both Paris St Germaine and Monaco’s spending has brought much attention to Ligue 1 which has led to a number of fans wanting to watch the action for the first time.

Unfortunately watching live football from France can be quite difficult for many or at least that was the case before the internet and SportsStream.co.uk!
