Raced around the streets of Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, the Baku Grand Prix brings the old and new of the city to the world as the street circuit raps around the narrow streets of the old town before heading past the skyscrapers of the new town at huge speeds.

The racing sections around the old town features tight and twisty sections where the balance and set up of each teams car is hugely important whilst the racing around the new town is all about top speed as it features a number of straights, then 90 degree turns to bring the racing back to the old town.

The tight and twisty section that see’s the car get to within inches of the historic castle in Baku is not only one of the iconic images of the racing season but it is always one of the biggest challenges for a F1 driver and it is the point where so many come unstuck.

Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was first raced in 2017, although the track was used in 2016 when it was run under the European Grand Prix name. Red Bull and Daniel Ricciardo won that first race in 2017 and since then the Azerbaijan GP has gone on to be one to look out for on the calendar.

The changes between slow corner and fast straights make it a difficult one to set your car up for and with some parts been amongst the trickiest for drivers all season long, the race often leads to an exciting one, full of incidents and accidents and with that element of unpredictability that we want at every race.
