ATP Cup Tennis

The ATP Cup is a relatively new tournament on the men’s ATP Tour but it is one that has already become one of the favourites on the tour and it is an event that stands out from most others.

The tournament takes place in Australia at the start of the year to be the main warm up event for the Australian Open but it is so much more than that as the event takes over from where the Davis Cup leaves off and becomes a chance for players to represent their country and also to pick up a huge purse.

With all of that in mind, it is no surprise that the tournament attracts all of the biggest stars in the world as they look to get themselves ready for the first Grand Slam of the year but despite that it can be difficult to watch the tournament live on British tv without the need to pay an expensive and ongoing.

Thankfully, there is now a way to legally watch all of the cation from the ATP Cup tennis tournament live online via the incredible live streaming services that are featured on this page.

Initially announced in 2018, the ATP Cup was first inaugurated in 2020. With the initial name of the World Team Cup, first impressions of the tournament was that it was to take over from where the tournament of a same name held in the German city of Dusseldorf between 1978-2012.

Upon announcing the tournament new and current name of the ATP Cup, it was also announced in 2018 that the tournament was to become part of the build up to the Aus Open and that the event was to be held in 3 separate arenas in the cities of Perth, Sydney, and Brisbane.

This helped to spread awareness and promotion of the Grand Slam in its home country but it also led to the end Hopman Cup, which was a smaller version of this event as it also featured players representing their country rather than playing individually.

That is one of the big standout differences that this tournament has over the majority of other ATP Tour level events but there are also a number of other big changes.

As a sport that players play for themselves due to the individual nature of tennis in the majority of events, the ATP Cup sees players play in teams with normally one high ranked star playing with lower ranked players from their country.

The countries that qualify for the tournament are divided into groups, where the teams will play each other in ties that consist of 2 singles matches and 1 doubles match.

The singles matches are played first in every tie and whilst that does of course mean that a tie can be won or lost before the doubles matches, no matter if a country goes 2-0 up or if the tie is still in the balance, the doubles match will be played to give all players good game time ahead of the Aus Open.

The winners of each group, plus best runners up, go through to the next round until we are left with just 2 countries and that of course means a head to head final to determine the winners of the ATP Cup.

The inaugural winners of the event, at the 2020 tournament, was Serbia, who defeated Spain by 2 matches to 1 in the final.

In 2021, it was another Eastern European country who enjoyed success at the ATP Cup when Russia (featuring Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev as there star single players) defeated Italy (featuring Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini as there star single players) where all of the action took place in the ‘bubble’ surrounding the Australian Open Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Russia won the final by 2 matches to 0 with Andrey Rublev defeating Fognini and Daniil Medvedev defeating Berrettini, both in straight sets.

The ATP Cup also allows both singles players and doubles players to gain ranking points, which is just another great reason for players to attend and to give us some great early season entertainment but unfortunately for those of us in the UK, it can be a frustrating experience to watch the ATP Cup live.

Even if you have an expensive and ongoing subscription to pay tv channels that show live tennis, the early morning starts and lack of real recognition of the tournament on this side of the globe means that the action can be hard to find.

The good news for those who love tennis and who have suffered the long winter off season and are in need of watching some great tennis action once more is that you can watch all of the fantastic matches from the ATP Cup live online via the ATP Cup live streaming services featured on this page.

Whilst you do need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account on the online bookmakers that we feature, you can watch tennis all year around and lots of other sport as well from across the globe.
