Watch ATP European Open

The European Open is a relatively new professional tournament on the men’s ATP Tour where it is a ATP World Tour 250 Series ranked event.

Held in the Belgian city of Antwerp matches are played on hard courts.

As a tournament with little history and with and a low ranking, the European Open may not be able to attract the biggest names in the sport but there are a number of top 50 ranked players couples with some young up and comers on the ATP Tour which makes for some interesting matchup and for potential shocks in each and every round.

ATP Antwerp

No matter if you know the tournament held in the Belgium city of Antwerp as the ATP Antwerp or the European Open, the event is a relatively new tournament level held on the Men’s ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour.

As a relatively new event, the tournament doesn’t have much history and prestige to call upon and it is also a relatively small tournament in terms of both ranking points that are on offer and the prize fund that is on offer but thanks to be well placed on the calendar amongst the end of season tournaments based in Europe, the event manages to attract a number of big name stars to participate.

The inaugural event was held in 2016 after the establishing of the event by the Flemish government and saw French star Richard Gasquet been crowned the first ever winner after defeating Argentinian Diego Schwartzman.

The 2nd edition of the tournament was almost a case of Deja Vue for Schwartzman as he once again lost in the final and once again to a French player but this time it was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to pick up the title.

It was nearly a hat-trick of wins for French players but in the 2018 edition Gael Monfils lost to Britain’s Kyle Edmund.

The 2019 edition was a standout event as it was once against a British star to pick up a win but this time it was the turn of Scottish star Andy Murray who defeated Stan Wawrinka in the final. That was the former world number 1’s first title since 2017 after an injury ravaged couple of years.

The 2020 edition was won by Frances Ugo Humbert, whilst the 2021 edition was won by Italy’s Jannik Sinner with the first non-European winner coming in 2022.
That award when to Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada who defeated Sebastian Korda of the USA in the final.
