ATP Basel
The Swiss Indoors is a professional tennis tournament on the men’s ATP Tour where it is a ATP World Tour 500 Series ranked event.
The tournament takes place at St Jakobshalle in the Swiss city of Basel which is on the French and German border. That adds an international flair to what is a tournament capable of attracting many of the world’s top players as there is a big prize fund on offer and good points due to its 500 Series ranking.
Matches at the Swiss Indoors are played on hard courts where the tournament used to stand out due to its red coloured courts but back in 2011 the event changed to using the traditional blue coloured hard courts.
The tournament has played host to stars such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras, John McEnroe and Jim Courier who have all won the event but it is local favourite Roger Federer who has dominated the last decade or so of the Swiss Indoors.
That dominance and the fact that Federer is from the city of Basel has led to the St Jakobshalle been renamed the Roger Federer Arena. There is a capacity of 9,000 for matches in the main hall.
The Swiss Indoors, also known as ATP Basel, has a long history going back to 1970 when it was first inaugurated and ever since then the event has gone up and down in its stature but it continues to provide entertaining tennis and every match can be watch live online.

ATP Basel
The Swiss Indoors, or the ATP Basel as the tournament is also known as, is one of the biggest tournaments in Central Europe and attracts a whose who of talent from across the continent and even further afield.
It will come as no surprise that the tournament has been dominated by Basel native Roger Federer who has not only won the most singles titles at the event but he also has reached a tour record number of finals in his home event but when the host arena changes its name to name itself after you, you are certainty doing something right!
The tournament has a long history dating back to 1970, so it will come as no surprise that the event has gone through some changes during that time including playing on both indoor carpet and indoor hard courts and it also used to feature on the Grand Prix tennis circuit.
In the modern era, the event has an ATP World Tour Series 500 ranking and that, when coupled with the good prize fund offered, helps to attract many household names.
One of the best ways to quickly see the strength of a tournament is to look at the names who have gone onto win the event and that certainly is an impressive list for the ATP Basel.
Amongst the players to win at St Jakobshalle are Klaus Berger (who won the inaugural event in 1970), Michel Burgener (who was the first Swiss player to win in 1972), Roger Taylor (who was the first British star to win the event in 1974), Bjorn Borg (Sweden), Guillermo Vilas (Argentina), Ivan Lendl (Czech Republic), Stefan Edberg (Sweden), Jim Courier (the United States of America), John McEnroe (the United States of America), Boris Becker (Germany), Pete Sampras (the United States of America), Greg Rusedski (Britain), Tim Henman (Britain), David Nalbandian (Argentina), Jiri Novak (Czech Republic), Novak Djokovic (Serbia), Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina), Marin Cilic (Croatia) and of course home favourite Roger Federer (Switzerland).
Roger Federer’s final and 10th win was in 2019 but then the tournament didn’t feature on the ATP for 2 years, with Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada winning the first post-Federer era final in 2022.
As with the majority of tennis tournaments on the main ATP world tour, the ATP Basel also features a doubles event and the great news for fans is that you can also watch all of that action as well.
The doubles event features a good mix of both doubles specialists and singles players who are puling double duty and that leads to some exciting match ups.
The doubles event has also see lots of success for British stars with the British pairing of Mark Cox and Buster Mottram defeating compatriot John Feaver and John James (Australia) in the 1977 final.
Jeremy Bates and Neil Broad both reach the final in losing efforts before Tim Henman won the event in 1997 alongside local favourite Marc Rosset by defeating the pairing of Karsten Braasch (Germany) and Jim Grabb (the United States of America).
Dominic Inglot (in 2012) and Jamie Murray (in 2015) both also finished runner up but Inglot went one better in 2013 and 2018 by picking up the title.
If you are a fan of tennis you will know that trying to watch tennis tournaments such as the ATP Basel can a frustrating experience as even if you have an expensive and ongoing subscription to a pay tv sports channel that show tennis you will only likely get to see a select number of matches from the event at best.
Thankfully, you can now pick and choose to watch the matches that you want to watch including everything from the opener to the final and all of the matches featuring the biggest stars of both the singles and the doubles event.
If you do decide to watch the action from Switzerland live via the great live streaming services of the online bookmakers featured on this page, you will need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account but you then can watch live tennis not just from this event but from tournaments held across the globe all year around.
