Watch Monte Carlo Grand Prix
The Circuit de Monaco is amongst the most famous in all of motorsport and is arguably the most iconic in Formula 1.
Raced around the marina and streets of Monte Carlo, the track takes in many of the sights of the Principality of Monaco whilst offering a big challenge for all drivers.
The track consists of a main straight, which is anything other than straight and then turn after turn after turn. The famed tunnel section of the circuit is one of the fastest parts of the race but it also is one of the most dangerous as you come out of the tunnel into the bright sunlight of Monaco before having to turn 90 degrees.
The fully street circuit is only used twice a year, both in May, with F1 and its feeder series taking 1 weekend and Formula E and the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco sharing alternative years to race around the streets of Monaco.
That leads to one of the ‘Greenest’ tracks of the season and one of the most unpredictable as the level of grip and the bumps on the track change from 1 year to the next.
The track is famed for been narrow and for having no runoff areas- so if a driver makes a mistake, it tends to end their race.
It takes around 6 weeks to build the track and put up seating and barriers and around 3 weeks to dismantle it.
The track features the slowest corner in F1 (The Fairmont Hairpin which is normally taken at around 30mph) as well as the quickest in the tunnel which is taken at around 160mph.
With the drivers knowing that they are in for a challenge throughout the 78 laps of racing, the teams face a huge challenge as well as the track features the tightest pit lane and the smallest and most dated pit garages on the calendar.
What Can We Watch?
You can watch all of the key action from each and every race weekend including all 3 practise sessions, qualifying and of course the actual race itself live.
Monaco Grand Prix
The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the highlights of the season for some fans and drivers and one of the lowlights for many as the polarising track is one full of history and prestige but also one that lacks racing and lacks entertainment.
The race has been run since 1929 and due to it been run around the streets of Monte Carlo, it has changed relatively little in that time.
Unfortunately for the race and for F1 fans, the cars have changed considerably and now there is little to no room for the modern day F1 cars to run around the course, never mind race.
That means the pole setter will more than likely win the race and the driver to reach the first corner in the lead will likely stay there.
The closeness of the track does mean that there is always a chance of a spectacular crash or the race leader to get into trouble and with the pitlanes been not up to standard as well, it also means there are issues when it comes to pit stops.
The race is by far the shortest on the calendar, falling some 30 miles short of the minimum race distance but with the action so slow, it needs to be that short to have any chance of finishing in the 2 hour limit- something which is often pushed to the limit if there are a number of safety cars.
