The Catalans Dragons are a French Rugby League team that play in the British pyramid where they have quickly established themselves as leading Super League side.
The Dragons, known as Dragons Catalans in France or nicknamed as Les Dracs, play their home game sat the Stade Gilbert Brutus in the Southern French city of Perpignan in the Pyrenees-Orientales region.
Formed in 2000 by a merger of XIII Catalan and AS Saint-Esteve to become Union Treiziste Catalane (UTC), the club were hugely successful in the French league before joining the Super League. The cub continue to play in the French top flight as Saint-Esteve XII Catalan, which acts as a feeder to the Dragons.
Les Dracs are known one of the most recognisable clubs thanks to their White, Red and Gold playing strip.
Over the years the club have become the biggest producer of players for the French national team, with many players moving over the channel to play for English sides.
The club really made a name for themselves and announced them as a top club when they became the first non-British team to win the Rugby League Challenge Cup by 20 points to 14 against the Warrington Wolves at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.
The good news for all fans of the Catalans Dragons is that you can watch live Les Dracs matches online via our Rugby League live streaming partners.
Is It Legal and Safe?
You may have come across websites offering streams that are nothing more than illegal stream of subscription channels. These same website often also cause harm to your PC, Mac or Smartphone but that isn’t the case here at SportsStreams.co.uk. We only feature 100% Legal and 100% Safe streams of sporting action.
Location
The Dragons are based in the city of Perpignan in the Pyrenees-Orientales region of South West French and as you would expect from the clubs name, it is in the French part of Catalonia, near to the Spanish border.
The city is historic and popular tourist destination, with the nearby beach resort of Canet Plage (Canet-en-Roussillon) popular with holidaymakers from across the continent.
Stadium
The impressive Stade Gilbert Brutus is the home ground of the Catalans Dragons and it is a great mix of the new and the old with the home fans housed mainly along the near and far touchline in a large all seating stand and a smaller bleacher style stand.
Away fans are in one of the newer parts of the ground and with only dedicated away fans in attendance, there tends to be a loud and vocal support for the visiting teams whilst the home team can never be quite sure of what they will get.
If the team are playing well, the locals will be behind them but it they are struggling, those same fans will be quick to turn but one thing you can always be assured of is lots of noise and a unique experience in the South of France.
The Dragons offer some of the biggest attendances in the competition and with the ground just a short trip from the city centre, matches are always big occasions.
Rivals
As a relatively new club that actually came to life from the merger of 2 big rivals, the club do not really have an historic rivals although matches between themselves and the Wigan Warriors have built an edge to them and always seem to be more important.
That is down to the Warriors been the first opponent for the Dragons and they built on that by welcoming a record 31,555 crowd to the iconic Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona for a match between the 2.
There is a budding rivalry between themselves and Toulouse Olympique, another French club who play in the English leagues and who we will hopefully all get to watch live in a Super League French Derby.
Colours / Playing Kit
Although the club have only been in existence since the year 2000, their club colours have already become iconic and their playing strips are normally amongst the most popular.
The club home playing strip tends to be mostly white and with a red and gold chevron to show the colours of the Catalans flag.
The away tends to build on that and is made up almost entirely on the red and gold (or Sang et or Net, Blood and Gold) colours of Catalonia.
The club have also produce a 3rd kit from time to time with one featuring the colours of Football Club Barcelona for their match at the Camp Nou.
