Snooker Masters Live Streaming

The Masters Snooker tournament is the first snooker tournament of the calendar year as well as been the second longest running tournament after the World Championship and it is also one of the sports ‘Triple Crown’ events.

The Masters first started in 1975 at the West Center Hotel in London and the tournament has been played at a number of venues since then with the Wembley Conference Centre often thought of has the home of the Masters but the tournament now takes place at Alexandra Palace in London.

History

The history of the Snookers Master goes all of the way back to the 1974/75 season when the inaugural final was won by John Spencer of England after he defeated Ray Reardon of Wales in a nail-biting last frame decider at the West Centre Hotel in England.

New London Theatre Era

The following year saw a move of location for the tournament which was hosted for the next 3 years at the New London Theatre.

In the first final held there, it was Ray Reardon who went one step further by defeating Graham Miles of England in the final.

The other winners at the theatre were Doug Mountjoy (Wales) and Alex Higgins (Northern Ireland).

In 1979, the event moved to its spiritual home of the Wembley Conference Centre and it is only fitting as the final of the first event held there saw a number of firsts.

International Success

Perrie Mans become the first non-British winner and the first African to win the event when the South African star defeated Alex Higgins to pick up the title.

The next headline making event took place in 1983 when the title was won by Cliff Thorburn who become the first North American winner when the Canadian defeated Ray Reardon to pick up the silverware and start a run of 3 wins in 4 years.

Stephen Hendry Era of Success

The next player to enjoy an era of dominance was Stephen Hendry who picked up his first title in 1989 which was the first of 5 straight wins for the Scottish superstar, who would go onto win a 6th title in 1996.

It took until the new millennium for another player to enjoy a dominant period when England’s Paul Hunter won 3 out of 4 finals starting in 2001.

Worldwide Success

In 2007, the tournament made the short move to the Wembley Arena and in it’s new home, it was Ronnie O’Sullivan who defeated Ding Junjui to pick up the title but in 2011, the last tournament held at the arena, it was the Chinese star who would grab the headlines as he not only became the first Asian winner of the title, but in defeating Marco Fu of Hong Kong in the final, he also starred in the first all Asian final and the first to not feature a British player.

In 2012, the event moved to its new home of Alexandra Palace where another record was broken as Neil Robertson defeated Shaun Murphy to become the first Australian winner of the title.

Record Breaker

In 2017, Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Joe Perry to pick up his 7th title and to break Stephen Hendry’s haul of 6 in just 2 years after also winning in 2016.

Move To Milton Keynes

In 2021, the event moved to its temporary home of the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes where one of the biggest shocks took place as Yan Bingtao picked up the biggest win of his young career against the Scottish stalwart John Higgins.
