Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
The Stuttgart Open is a professional tennis tournament that takes place on the Women’s WTA, where it is one of the most historical tournaments having been first established back in 1978.
The tournament has undergone a number of changes throughout its long history, including to the host city and host venue to the ranking level on the WTA Tour and even to the surface the matches are played on.
The tournament was originally held in Filderstadt, a small town in the district of Esslingen in Baden-Wurttemberg which is around 10 miles south of the city of Stuttgart but in 2006, the event moved to the new and impressive Porsche Arena in city of Stuttgart itself and from their on in, the event has enjoyed a new lease of life.
Interestingly, the tournament is one of the few tournaments left on either the WTA Tour or the ATP Tour that is played on a clay court surface indoors.
Despite all of that, the event has kept its lineage going back to the inaugural event and it is now one of the most prestigious tournaments for women, not just in Europe, but in the world.
That helps the event to attract many of the sports top stars and when you add in a good location and a decent sized prize und and you have all that you need for an entertaining week of tennis action and the great news for all fans of the sport is that you can watch the action live via the streaming services found on this page.

WTA Stuttgart
The Stuttgart Open, also known as the WTA Stuttgart or as the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, is a professional tournament that currently takes place on the women’s WTA Tour.
The current day event is a WTA 500 level event, with a decent prize fund that takes place at the impressive Porsche Arena with all of the action happening on indoor clay courts, although that certainly has not been the case for the event throughout its long history.
As you would expect from a tournament with the history of the WTA Stuttgart, there have been lots of changes down the years and it perhaps best to split its history into a number of different eras.
The inaugural event was established in 1978 when the event was hosted by the town of Filderstadt. The event stayed there until 2005 and was originally an outdoor hard court tournament.
The original host venue was the Tennis Sporthalle Filderstadt and the first major change to the event came in 1990, when the tournament became a Tier II ranked event.
The winners of the event during its first era were Tracy Austin (of the United States who won the first 4 tournaments), Martina Navratilova (of the United States who won 5 of the first 10 editions), Catarina Lindqvist (Sweden), Pam Shriver (United States), Gabriela Sabatini (Argentina) and Mary Joe Fernandez (United States).
Whilst those who won in its original venue as a Tier II level were Mary Pierce (France), Anke Huber (Germany), Martina Hingis (Switzerland) and Kim Clijsters (Belgium).
The final winner in Filderstadt was Lindsay Davenport of the United States whilst the inaugural winner of the Stuttgart based event was Nadia Petrova of Russia.
Other winners of the event as an outdoor clay court have included the likes of Justin Henin (Belgium), Jelena Jankovic (Serbia), Julia Gorges (Germany), Maria Sharapova (Russia), Angelique Kerber (Germany), Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) and Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic).
As is the case at the majority of tennis tournament son the women’s WTA Tour, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix also features a doubles event alongside the singles event and the great news for all fans is that you can also watch that action live online.
The 2021 edition of the event featured a dominant performance by Australian superstar Ashleigh Barty who not only defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the singles final but also competed the double by winning the doubles event alongside Jennifer Brady of the USA.
In 2022, the Belarusian lost in the final once again with Iga Swiatek of Poland winning the event.
