Dragons vs Bulls
The Catalans Dragons welcome the Bradford Bulls from West Yorkshire in the north of England to the south-west of France for a fascinating looking match up that should be a close battle throughout. The Dragons are a club with a strong pedigree since joining the topflight of Rugby League in Europe whilst the Bulls have great nostalgia about them, which makes this one a standout despite their differing form over more recent times.
The Dragons have continually been in the hunt for titles and trophies over the past decade or so and are a club who see a finish in the play-offs as been the minimum expected.
The Bulls were one of the leaders of the new summer era of the sport and during those late 90’s seasons, they were one of the clubs to beat.
Bull Mania swept the city; crowds were huge and the club won all there was to win both domestically and globally but that couldn’t last of course.
Since then, the Bulls have been in a battle to simply survive but now that seems to be behind them, they are back in the topflight and are looking to reestablish themselves at the upper level of the sport.
What better way to do that that to face one of the top clubs in their own back yard and come away with the points? Whilst for the hosts, this is the sort of match they will be targeting for the win if they are to remain as one of the top clubs and that is just what sets this one up to be a must watch match.
Stadium
The match takes place at the Stade Gilbert Brutus in the border city of Perpignan, which as you would likely expect from the name of the club is in the Catalan region along the Spanish/French border.
The stadium is easy to recognise thanks to the incredible atmosphere created by local fans, the red and yellow seating and the fact that there is a maniple swimming pool at one end.
Down one side of the stadium is a large all-seater stand with some corporate facilites, the grounds media facilites and some cover from the elements.
At one end of the stadium is a large, modern, all-seater stand that also wraps around the far corner and does also feature some standing space underneath it as it is raised from the ground.
The final side is a mixture of temporary; golf stand styles stands and a small all-seater bleacher style terrace that is set to be rebuilt soon.
Aside from all of the travel issues that the Bulls will have to deal with, and the change in weather conditions, one of the biggest issues any team face when playing the Dragons in France is the large, vocal and colourful crowd that they face which is one of the most intimidating in the sport but for neutrals, it just adds to the spectacle of watching Les Dracs live in action.
Why You Should Watch
If you are a fan of the Dragons you will want o watch as many of their matches as you can do but it is too much of an ask to keep flying across the channel over and over, so the next best option is to watch live footage from the edge of the Pyrenees.
A similar story can be made for fans of the Bulls, as the cost can time requirements needed to follow the Bulls to the south of France makes it difficult for many to watch live in person, so the next best thing is to watch along with the live broadcast of the game.
That is especially true for those fans who normally follow the club home and away and who don’t want to miss out on the action just because this one is a match they cannot miss.
This is the sort of match that will likely have a big impact on a number of other clubs, at both ends of the table, so if your favourite side is set to be one of those, you will likely want to watch along live to be able to see what that impact will be, as it happens.
Even if your favourite side won’t be impacted by the result of this one, it is a great match to tune in to watch for any fan of the sport as matches in the south of France always have a big game feel to them and with the quality out there on both sides of the field, this is set to be a great match throughout.
If you are new to the sport and have never watched a 13 aside match of Rugby, this is a great one to start with as not only do you get to see two clubs from their respective heartlands of the sport, but you also get to watch a French twist on Rugby League, which is normally played with full commitment and coupled with the conditions down in Perpignan, that normally leads to high scoring battles.
Where You Can Watch
For those fans who have followed Rugby League for much of the summer era of the sport, you will know all to well just how frustrating and expensive it has been for much of that period to watch the sport and how it could be impossible to watch a match up such as this one.
Even for those who were lucky enough to have an ongoing subscription to a pay tv sports channel that had the rights to broadcast the match that you were wanting to watch, the chances are that the match would not get selected for live broadcast.
There were a few different reasons for that, but the main issue was that only a select number of matches from every round of action were ever chosen to be broadcast live and the chances are that a match up such as this one would get overlooked.
Thankfully, that is no longer the case and fans can watch ever Super League match as well as NRL matches and other competitions from across the globe.
Each of the services featured on this page allow you to watch Rugby League live, so all that you need to do is choose the service that works the best for you and offers more of what you want to watch but don’t forget, you can use as many services as you want to get as much action as you want.
