The Russian Grand Prix has been part of the Formula One World Championship since 2014 but it is fair to say that the race has yet to grab the attention of sports fans and sits unfavourably with F1 fans.

The race takes place in the seaside resort of Sochi on a street circuit built around the stadiums and facilities built for the inter Olympics held in and near to Sochi.

The track offers few overtaking possibilities and struggles for crowds which can lead to a disappointing race and one that the drivers don’t particularly look forward to.

There are few features that really stand out in Sochi aside from the large 180 turn the racers do around the Olympic Park that see’s the cars corner at top speeds but with large run off areas and a wide track, there is little chance of coming unstuck aside from mechanical failures.

Russia Grand Prix

The race was initially run in the 1910’s, in the historic city of St Petersburg but that soon fell away. Plans for a race in Moscow in 1983 as the Soviet Union Grand Prix but it took until 2014 for Russia to get a Grand Prix.

After spending huge sums of money to showcase the resort of Sochi to the world, things may have fallen flat and after replacing another disappointing track in South Korea, this is a race that really needs some rain to make for an exciting afternoon.
