The Salford Red Devils are a professional Rugby League team based in the Greater Manchester city of Salford. Established in 1873, the club are one of the oldest Rugby teams in the world.
The club have been known simply as Salford and then the Salford City Reds before becoming the Salford Red Devils in 2013, with the name coming from the clubs nickname which was given to them back in 1934 when the local press in France described Salford as playing like ‘Diables Rouges’- the Red Devils, when the club we on tour across the channel.
Salford play the majority of matches in their home strip of Red, White and Black/Dark Blue.
Although recent years have seen a lack of success for the Red Devils, the club have enjoyed lots of years challenging for honours and they have won multiple league championships and the Challenge Cup.

Location
The Salford Red Devils are based in the city of Salford which is located in the shadow of the giant cosmopolitan city of Manchester in the county of Greater Manchester in the North West of England.
Stadium
Salford left their historic home ground of the Willows in 2012 to move to the nearby Barton-upon-Irwell based Salford City Stadium (known as the AJ Bell Stadium due to sponsorship reasons).
The ground hold 12,000 fans and offers a good mix of seating areas and standing terraces as well as good corporate facilities but it has failed to live up to the atmosphere of their former home although when full for bigger matches, the ground is a great place to watch Rugby League football but can lack atmosphere when not quite so full due to the open nature of the ground.
The stadium is next to the Manchester Ship Canal, just off of the M6 motorway and also near to the popular Trafford Centre.
Rivals
The Red Devils traditional rivalry is with near neighbours the Swinton lions but due to the 2 clubs not competing at the same level for quite some time, that rivalry has lost some steam.
In the modern era, there is some rivalry between the club and other teams from the north west including the Wigan Warriors, St Helens and the Warrington Wolves- all of which can create bumper crowds for matches between themselves and the Salford Red Devils.
Colours / Playing Kit
As you would expect from a club with the nickname of the Red Devils, the main colour of Salford’s home playing strip is red, with white and black also featuring.
The clubs away kits do change in colour and design from one season to the next but they are often black with a red chevron.
