Riga Masters Snooker

The Riga Masters is a professional tournament that as you would expect takes place in the Latvian capital city of Riga with all of the action been played at the Arena Riga, which is the cities main sporting and concert arena.

Whilst large scale pop and rock concerts or sports such as the local favourite of Ice Hockey maybe more associated with the arena, for one week a year all eyes on the on the green beige of a Snooker table as many of the sports top stars head across the North Sea to the Baltic.

The tournament got off to a relatively modest start as it first appeared as part of the Players Tour Championship, which acted as a bridge for newer tournaments between pro-am and full tour events but with the ending of the PTC, it was good for all fans of the sport to see that the event was kept on and moved to the full world tour as a ranking event, something which it continues to enjoy the status of too today.

The first two events, as part of the PTC, were known as the Riga Open and it was Mark Selby of England who defeated Mark Allen of Northern Ireland by 4 frames to 3 in an exciting climax to the inaugural event to pick up the first ever title in Riga.

The second and final running of the event under the Riga Open guise was in 2015 when another Englishman, Barry Hawkins, defeated compatriot Tom Ford by 4 frames to 1 to pick up the last Riga Open title.

In 2016, the event became a full ranking event and renamed itself as the Riga Masters but the event still came from the same location in the Latvian capital.

The first running of the newly named tournament saw the first non-English winner as Neil Robertson of Australia defeated Michael Holt of England by 5 frames to 2 to pick up the inaugural Riga Masters title.

The 2017 edition of the tournament featured the first final not to include a player form England as Ryan Day of Wales defeated Stephen Maguire of Scotland by 5 frames to 2.

Neil Robertson became the first player to win the tournament on more than 1 occasion when he defeat Jack Lisowski of England by 5 frames to 2 to pick up the 2018 title and in 2019, Yan Bingtao became the first winner of the tournament from China in a winning effort against Mark Joyce of England.

As you can see the list of winners and runner sup at the tournament, it attracts a good number of both top stars and sold pro’s and that makes for some exciting match ups that is well worth watching for even casual fans but matches that are simply a must watch for ardent fans of the sport.

Unfortunately, it can be a difficult and frustrating experience trying to watch the Riga Masters Snooker event on television as even if you have an ongoing and expensive subscription to a pay tv channel that shows the action or access to another tv station with coverage, the chances are that only a select number of matches will be featured and that will often mean fans miss out on the match that they were most interesting in watching.

Thankfully, there is now a way to watch the action that you want to watch, no matter if you are anting to watch the tournament opener or the final or the lowest ranked player to the biggest star, you can via the fantastic live streaming services featured on this very page.

The Snooker streaming services of the online bookmakers that we feature allow you to pick and choose the matches that you want to watch and whilst you must be aged 18 or over and have a funded account, you can then watch live Snooker not just form this tournament but from tournaments held across the globe all season long.

There are far too few tournament held outside of the UK and China and that is even more of an issue when it comes to full blown ranking event so it is great to see a tournament such as this establish itself on the tour and whilst it does not have the history and prestige to rival tournaments in the sports heartlands, it has already developed an interesting titbit.

Since the tournament moved to a ranking event in 2016, the first 4 tournament were all won by the victorious score of 5 frames to 2 in the final.
