The China Open is a professional tennis tournament that takes place on both the men’s ATP Tour and on the women’s WTA Tour.

For the men, it is ATP World Tour 500 Series ranked event whist for the women it is a WTA Premier Mandatory tanked event.

ATP Beijing

The first edition of the ATP Beijing, the men’s side of the tournament was held in 2004 when an all Russia final was held between Marat Safin and Mikhail Youzhny, with Safin defeating his countryman to pick up the first title in Beijing.

The tournament has always been a middle level event on the ATP Tour in terms of world ranking points on offer but it has also offered a big prize fund which has attracted the worlds top stars which was highlighted in the tournaments second event when the title was won by superstar Rafa Nadal.

Other big names to win at the ATP Beijing have included Tomas Berdych, Dominic Thiem, Britain’s own Andy Murray but it has been the Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic who has been the dominant player at the tournament after winning multiple titles including 4 straight wins between 2012-2015.

No matter if you want to watch one of the stars of the ATP tour, the ATP Beijing Final or any other match from the event, it has never been easier as you can watch all of the action from the ATP Beijing live online via our live stream partners.

WTA Beijing

The women’s event at the tournament, known as the WTA Beijing, was also established in 2004 when it was a separate entity for the men’s side of the draw, with the action taking place on separate weeks.

Unlike so many events around the world, the tournament has a much larger prize fund for the WTA event and it also offers more ranking points which makes it one of the biggest tournaments outside of the big 4 Grand Slams.

That attracts the absolute best of the best players and that leads to a top quality tournament that we all can now easily enjoy.

The prestige of the tournament was established almost from the off as superstar Serena Williams defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova to pick up the first title.

Down the years, the title has continued to be spread out across the top stars of the WTA Tour with no one player dominating like in the ATP event.

Stars to have won the event on more than 1 occasion include Svetlana Kuznetsova (who recovered from their initial loss to win 2 of the next 5 events), Serena Williams (who did not back up that initial win until 2013), Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

In 2019, the tournament had its first ever Asian winner when Japan’s Naomi Osaka defeated Ashleigh Barty of Australia whilst Britain’s own Johanna Konta was the runner up in the 2016 edition.

No matter if you want to watch one of the stars of the WTA tour, the WTA Beijing Final or any other match from the event, it has never been easier as you can watch all of the action from the WTA Beijing live online via our live stream partners.

The event, formerly known as the Beijing Open, was inaugurated in 1993 when the ATP first started to expand in Asia. Since then the tournament has been dropped form the tour (between 1998 and 2004), reinstated and oved from the Beijing Tennis Center to the new National Tennis Center, where the tournament currently takes place.

When the tournament was re-established in 2004, the WTA Shanghai event was moved to Beijing to add both a women’s single and women’s double event to the China Open.

The tournament has a large prize fund for both men and women, with the women’s been one of the largest on the tour. With the large pot of money on offer coupled with the big rankings points and the Mandatory category on the WTA Tour, the China Open is able to bring many of the world’s biggest star to play in front of crowds in the Chinese capital.

Throughout the last decade or so the women’s side of the draw has been an open affair with no player holding the title on more than 2 occasions, whilst on the men’s side the tournament has been dominated by Novak Djokovic.

Matches at the China Open are played on outdoor hard courts at the impressive National Tennis Center which was home to the tennis event at the Beijing Olympics.

The complex has 12 match courts including 3 stadium courts and 6 practise courts. The largest stadium court is the National Tennis Stadium/ Diamond Court which hosts both the WTA Beijing final and the ATP Beijing Final at the China Open with other big matches taking place on the Lotus Court/ Center Court and the smaller Moon Court/ Court 1.

No matter which court your chosen match is taking place on you can watch all of the action live from the China Open online. Every WTA Beijing match and every ATP Beijing match are available to watch live including those not televised in the UK.
