WTA Strasbourg
The Internationaux de Strasbourg, or the WTA Strasbourg as it is also known as especially in the non-French speaking world, is a professional tennis tournament that takes place on the women’s WTA Tour where it is an International level event.
Despite that relatively low ranking and despite offering a relatively modest prize fund, the tournament has attracted many top stars from across the globe including lots of world number 1’s who mix it up with solid pros and lots of young up and coming players to give lots of exciting matches and plenty of never seen before match ups.
The matches at the event take place on outdoor clay courts in the run up to the French Open so it will come as no surprise that the tournament is used by many players as a warm up event for the only Grand Slam to be played on clay courts.
Originally the tournament was held at the Hautepierre, which is a suburb of Strasbourg located in the western side of the city before moving to the current venue of the Strasbourg Tennis Club in 2011. The tournament uses a similar clay and playing conditions as Roland Garros as well as the same balls used at the tournament to make for the ideal warm up for all of the female stars who participate in this event in preparation for the French Open Grand Slam.
Amongst the stars names to have enjoyed success in Strasbourg are Carling Bassett (of Canada, who won the inaugural event in 1987), Sandra Cecchini (the first European winner in 1988), Mercedes Paz (the first South American winner form Argentina), Naoko Sawamatsu (the first Asian winner from Japan in 1993), Mary Joe Fernandez (the United States of America), Lindsay Davenport (the United States of America), Steffi Graf (Germany), Jennifer Capriati (the United States of America), Silvia Farina Elia (who won the tournament 3 years running between 2001-2003), Maria Sharapova (Russia), Samantha Stosur (the first winner from Australia) and Elina Svitolina.
As with the majority of tennis tournaments on the women’s WTA Tour, the WTA Strasbourg also features a doubles event alongside the singles event and the great news for all fans is that you can also watch all of the fantastic doubles action alongside the main singles action.
There have been lots of stars to win the doubles event down the years, as not only do you have a wide range of doubles specialists playing at the event but you also have top singles stars pulling double duty and playing in both events.

The 2021 edition of the event was won by Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic before German star Angelique Kerber won the singles title in 2022.
