Snooker Tour Championship
The Tour Championship is a professional ranking tournament that joined the Snooker tour for the 2018-2019 season.
It was only in April 2018 that the tournament was first announced by World Snooker, with the inaugural event set for the following March and to be hosted by the Venue Cymru exhibition and conference centre in the seaside and holiday resort of Llandudno in North Wales.
That was a boost to the venue and to Snooker fans across North and Central Wales as it in many ways replaced the Players Championship which had been held in the town but which moved to the Guild Hall in Preston for the 2019 edition.
The tournament soon made waves in the Snooker world when it was announced that the event would become the ranking tournament with the lowest number of entries as only the top 8 players from the one year ranking list would be eligible to participate, subject of course to injuries and availability etc, with the next highest ranked player on standby.
The tournament offers a decent sized prize fund, especially with only a few players to share the pot between and with the first title winners award of £150,000, it was a tournament well worth attending for the players but perhaps most importantly, it is a tournament that is well worth watching for fans of the sport.
With only the top stars in attendance and with all of the motivation they could ever need, it is no surprise that the finals of the event have featured great match ups between players that would grace any tournament final.
The inaugural event was won by arguably the biggest star of the sport for the last couple of decades as The Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan of England took on and defeated The Melbourne Potter, Neil Robertson of Australia by 13 frames to 11 to pick up the first ever Tour Championship title in an exciting match that was in the balance throughout.
That was a great start to the tournament and announced it to the sporting world so it is no surprise that so many fans re wanting to watch the Snooker Tour Championship live but as many fans will know it can be a frustrating experience to watch events such as this one live on British television.
