Bavarian Open

The Bavarian International Tennis Championships, or simply the BMW Open as the tournament is now known as for sponsorship reasons, is one of the oldest tournaments on the ATP tour and after starting out as a grass court tournament, the BMW Open is now one of the leading Clay Court tournaments on the men’s tour.

At the Münchner Tennis- und Turnierclub (MTTC) Iphitos tennis club in the Bavarian city of Munich (Munchen), the event has continued to grow throughout its long history and is now thought of as one of the key tournaments on the ATP Tour.

Local talent has done well throughout the history of the tournament but iconic names such as Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, and Mark Philippoussis have all one the men’s single event with Britain’s own Jamie Murray winning the doubles tournament in 2014.

Bavarian International Tennis Championships

No matter if you know the tournament as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, the BWM Open, the ATP Munich or the Bavarian Open, the men’s tennis tournament held in the German city of Munich is one of the oldest tournaments still in existence.

First established way back in 1900, the tournament now takes place at the MTTC Iphitos (Munchner Tennis- und Turnierclub) in Munich, with all of the matches taking place on outdoor clay courts.

Originally the tennis club only offered grass court, as so many did at the time in Europe and therefore it was originally a grass court tournaments before moving onto clay.

The main court at the centre, known somewhat unsurprisingly as centre court but officially called Aumeisterweg, can host a little over 5,500 fans.

The tournament is part of the men’s ATP Tour where it currently has a low ranking and with only a relatively low prize fund, it is testament to the prestige and history of the Munich Open that the event can attract plenty of household names and even a number of top 10 stars.

That makes the BMW Open a must watch for tennis fans but it can be a difficult tournament to watch live on British television but thankfully you can now watch all of the action live online via the great ATP Munich live streaming services featured on this page.

The quality of worthiness of your time can often be deemed by the winners that have won the event and whilst many of the early winners have been lost to time, due to the long history of the event and the relatively small nature of the tournament way back when it first started.

Up until the 1950’s, local players from Germany and surrounding countries dominated what was then a relatively local event.

The 1950’s saw a much more internationally diverse line up and it was no surprise to sees winners from the United States of America and Australia, including the likes of Roy Emerson, join local European’s on the winners step.

It took until the 1970’s for a prize fund to be offered to participants and winners and this helped to take the tournament up a notch and saw a number of what are now household names appear.

It was also in this decade that the first glimpse of success for a British players occurred when Christopher ‘Buster’ Mottram made it through to the 1978 final where he came up short against Argentina’s Guillermo Vilas.

From the 1990’s onwards and with an established place on the new ATP Tour, the Bavarian Open quickly added top names winners from across the globe with winners of the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in the modern era including the likes of Ivan Lendl (the United States of America), Mark Philippoussis (Australia), Thomas Enqvist (Sweden), Jiri Novak (Czech Republic), Roger Federer (Switzerland), Nikolay Davydenko (Russia), David Nalbandian (Argentina), and local favourites Alexander Zverev, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Tommy Haas.

The first winner to come from Britain came in 2015 when Scotland’s Andy Murray defeated Phillip Kohlschreiber in the final.

As with the majority of tournaments on the men’s ATP Tour, the Bavarian Open also features a doubles event alongside the singles event and all of these matches can also be watched online via the tennis live stream services featured on this page.

The doubles side of the draw features mainly doubles specialists but also a number of singles players doing double duty.

In the 2014 event, it was the most successful one for British players with the team of John Peers (Australia) and Jamie Murray beating the British pair of Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins.

No matter if you are wanting to watch the singles event or the doubles event from Munich or the first round or the final of either, the great news is that you can online.

If you have tried to find the tournament on British television, you will likely have had a frustrating experience as even if you are in the fortunate position to have an expensive and ongoing subscription to a pay tv sports channel, you will likely only get a limited number of matches from the Bavarian International Tennis Championships.

With so much great action from the ATP Munich on offer, it is no surprise that tennis fans want much more than that and that is exactly what you can get via the BMW Open live stream services featured on this page that allow you to pick and choose from all of the matches.

To watch via any of the live streaming services of the online bookmakers featured on this page you will need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account but you can then watch live tennis not just from this tournament from event held across the globe all year around.
