ATP Lyon Tennis
The Lyon Open, often referred to simply as the ATP Lyon or locally as the Open Parc Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes Lyon, is a professional tennis tournament that takes place on the men’s ATP Tour.
The tournament was established on the tour in 2017, to replace the Open de Nice Cote d’Azur event but professional tennis events in Lyon has a much longer history than that.
The current day event takes place in the Parc de la Tete d’or, which is a large park in the centre of Lyon that is a must visit for anybody visiting the city but for 1 week a year, all eyes move from the flowers, fountains, and attractions of the park and onto the sport of tennis for the Lyon Open.
The tournament is an ATP Tour 250 series level event that features a relatively large prize fund for its level and when you add in the fact that the event takes place in the build up to the French Open, on outdoor clay courts and close to the host of the sports only clay court Grand Slam and you have all that you need for a tournament that can attract top stars and give fans some great must see tennis action.

ATP Lyon
The Lyon Open, also known as the ATP Lyon, was established in 2017 but fans of the sport in the city have been able to enjoy top class action for much longer than that as there used to be an indoor tournament held on hard courts between 1987-2009.
The new tournament is now run as a build up match for the French Open and offers players a good warm up before the Grand Slam but also a tournament that is well worth winning in its own right.
Although the event only has a relatively low ranking on the ATP Tour, it does have a large prize fund which always helps a tournament to attract stars bigger than you would expect but this event also has the added benefit of having much more prestige than other tournaments of a similar standing thanks to been located so close to the French Open and thanks to been part of the build up to the Grand Slam.
The tournament has seen success for clay court specialists and for local stars with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga been the winner of the inaugural final when he defeated Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic to win the first title on Lyon’s return to the ATP Tour.
The 2nd French winner was Benoit Paire in 2019, whilst Austria star Dominic Thiem won the 2018 edition by defeating local favourite Giles Simon.
There was some British success in the 2022 edition of the tournament when Cameron Norrie defeated Alex Molcan of Slovakia.
Doubles
As is the case with the majority of ATP Tour level events, the ATP Lyon also features a doublers event alongside the singles event.
The doubles side of the tournament features a mix of doubles specialists and singles stars to make for an exciting event that can also be watched live online via the streaming services found on this page.
The inaugural champions of the doubles event in Lyon were the duo of Andres Molteni of Argentina and Adil Shamasdin of Canada who defeated the duo of Marcus Daniell of New Zealand and Marcelo Demoliner of Brazil in the final.
It has been on the doubles side of the event that has seen the most success to date for British stars when the Skupski brothers (Ken and Neal) made it through to the final of the 2019 in a losing effort to Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France and Ivan Dogig of Croatia.
In the 2022 double event, it was Ivan Dodig of Croatia who teamed with Austin Krajicek of the USA to win the title when they defeated Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina and Marcelo Melo of Brazil in the final.
