Qatar Open Tennis
The Qatar Open is a professional tennis tournament that takes place at the beginning of the men’s ATP World Tour where it is an ATP World Tour 250 Series ranked event.
The Qatar Open is held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, where the tournament has been in the Qatar capital city of Doha since 1993.
Over that the event has continued to grow and now is the favourite starting place for many of the stars of the ATP Tour as they look to build up form, fitness and confidence ahead of the Australian Open, the first major of the year held shortly after the Qatar Open.
The likes of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal have multiple wins at the tournament which highlights the level of players the event attracts and also helps to explain why this tournament is a must watch.
After 6 weeks or without any tennis, the Qatar Open is a chance for players to get back out on court and put in motion what they have been working on in practise, whilst for fans it is the chance to get back to watching world class tennis and ending the seemingly never ending off season period.

Qatar Ladies Open
As the tournament is split into two, with the women’s and men’s events taking place on separate weeks unlike the majority of tournaments that take place on both tours, the event scan be seen as separate events.
For the women’s event, the tournament is given the name of the Qatar Ladies Open, or simply the WTA Doha if you prefer.
The WTA Tour have held an event in Doha since the Qatar Open was inaugurated back in 2001, although the tournament wasn’t held in both 2009 and 2010 but their has been lots of instability in the ranking of the event with it constantly flipping between a Premier Tournament and a Premier 5 Tournament although with the huge prize fund on offer and its placing early in the season, the Qatar Ladies Open continually attracts many of the worlds greatest stars and in turn that leads to lots of quality action.
The quality on offer can be seen amongst the women of the WTA Tour event in Doha including the likes of Martini Hingis, Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, Justine Henin, Victoria Azarenka, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitová, Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.

ATP Doha
The men’s side of the event in Doha is known simply as the Qatar Open or as the ATP Doha and has been in existence since 1993.
Just likes the women’s event, the tournament has a relatively low number of ranking points on offer but thanks to a large prize fund, it attracts many of the world’s greatest stars and gives fans some great early season tennis action.
Amongst the stars to have picked up the title in Doha are Boris Becker (who won the inaugural event), Stefan Edberg, Jim Courier, Marcelo Rios, Roger Federer, Ivan Ljubicic, Nikolay Davydenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Richard Gasquet, Rafa Nadal, David Ferrer, Novak Djokovic, Gail Monfils, Andrey Rublev and Britain’s own Andy Murray.
There was more success for Britain in the 2022 edition of event as although it was Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain who defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the men’s singles, it was Britain’s Neal Skupski who teamed up with Wesley Koolhof of The Netherlands to win the doubles event.
That list just highlights the sort of quality you can expect to see at the Qatar Open tennis tournament and shows why this is a tournament that any tennis fan should really be watching as it may go overlooked here in the UK but it can give some of the best tennis of the season.
