Watch Champion of Champions

The Champion of Champions is a professional Snooker tournament and the great news for all fans is that you can watch all of the action live online via our Snooker live streaming partners.

The tournament is a non-ranking event that is different from most other tournaments as the event is only for those players who have won tournaments on the tour over the past 12 months.

The Champion of Champions was first established way back in 1978 when it was held in London but the event didn’t last long as it was cancelled in 1980.

It wasn’t until 2013 when the Champion of Champions was brought back into existence but ever since then the tournament has been held annually at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

As the tournament features those players who have won events recently, the event tends to feature the top players on the tour and perhaps most importantly, the players who are in form and that makes for an un-missable event for all Snooker fans.

Snooker Champion of Champions

The Champion of Champions is tournament of contrasts as it is not only an historic tournament but it is a relatively new one as well and whilst it features the best of the best, it offers no ranking points and only a relatively decent prize fund.

After first been held in the late 1970’s / early 1980’s, the tournament fell off of the tour and was one of those short live events that soon left everyone’s memory and it was never really remembered.

With the new only of the sport looking at expanding events and also looking to copy the mould of other sports such as golf and tennis that are also ‘travelling circus’ style sports that rely on the same group of players travelling to host venues around the world, it was perhaps a surprise and not a surprise all at the same time that one of the new events was the return of the Champion of Champions.

The revised event, which name aside had little to do with the initial tournament of the same name, started up in 2013, with the action moving from its original homes at the Wembley Conference Centre in the capital city of London and the new London Theatre to the Ricoh Arena, attached to the Ricoh Stadium, in the city of Coventry.

In those original running’s of the event, both finals featured a Welsh winner with Ray Reardon defeating Alex Higgins in 1978 and Doug Mountjoy defeating John Virgo in 1980.

Interestingly, the original tournament was create by the famous boxing promoter Mike Barrett, with Snookers new owners Matchroom Sport, owned by Barry Hearn, another famous face from the boxing promotion world.

The modern version of the Snooker Champion of Champions, inaugurated in 2013 has really lived up to its name as it has been big star after big star to win the event, with winners including the likes of the Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy, and Mark Allen.

That level of victor in the event is not too surprising as the event features the winner of tournaments from the past 12 months.

If there has not been enough different winners of tournaments to make up the numbers needed for the event, the playing field is topped up by the next highest ranked player(s) in the current world rankings.

With players who have already shown that they have what it takes to win events meeting the players in the best current form, you have all it takes to make for a fantastic tournament and for some great Snooker action but it can be frustrating trying to watch all of the action on television.

The great news for all fans of the sport is that it is now simple and completely safe to watch the Champion of Champions Snooker live online via the incredible live streaming services of the online bookmakers that are featured on this page.

If you do decide to watch the tournament live via the Snooker streaming services that we feature from the online bookmakers on this page, you will need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account but you can then watch live Snooker, not just from the Champion of Championship tournament but form events held across the globe all season long.

The event is one that sadly goes overlooked by more casual fans, despite it been an evet that features just the top players from the top echelons of the Snooker world.

It is difficult to know just why that is the case but many fans liken it to the Masters event which is a similar tournament as in it features just the best of the best with no ranking points on offers but whilst the Masters has lots of prestige and history around it, the Champion of Champions just does not have that history behind it.

That does of course mean that it gets to make its own history and that is something it is forging for itself, which has been heled by the number of top stars that have won the event and the number of finals that have been in the balance throughout or that have gone down to a final frame decider.
