English Open Snooker

In 2015, the decision was made by World Snooker and its new chairman Barry Hearn that a new group of tournaments were to be held at venues across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, to join with the existing Welsh Open to forma new Home Nations Series.

With ranking points on offer at each of these events and a decent prize fund, including a £1,000,000 bonus for any players winning each of the event in any given series and you had all of the hallmarks needed for new tournaments that would attract top star and give fans some great action to watch.

One of the new events to be named was the English Open, with the idea for the event coming to fruition in October 2016 when the inaugural event was held at EventCity in Manchester.

In what was an event to highlight the heartlands of the sport, it was perhaps against the plan but also completely apt that the first winner of the tournament came form the new emerging powerhouse of Snooker when Liang Wenbo defeated England Judd Trump in that first final by 9 frames to 6.

With that said, the next 3 finals featured all English match ups and 4 of the first 5 tournaments were won by Englishmen (Ronnie O’Sullivan, Stuart Bingham, Mark Selby, and Judd Trump).

With top name stars and plenty of action to rival that any other match on the tour for excitement, it is no surprise that so many Snooker fans enjoy watching the action from the English Open Snooker event but it can also be a frustrating experience trying to watch all of the action live.

When new tournaments is trying to establish itself on the Snooker circuit, or any tournament in any sport, continuity is normally in order as it is that that build history and prestige but that is something that the Snooker English Open has struggled with.

Despite the event been one of the newer tournaments on the world tour, it has already moved to a number of different venues, it has already had a number of different sponsors and perhaps to a smaller detriment to the event is the fact that a large percentage of the finals at the English Open have bene one sided and nearly over before they got going.

It can often be to the benefit of a tournament that a number of players have won it, as unpredictability is always great in sporting terms but with so many changes elsewhere in the English Open, it would perhaps be to the benefit if a player pickup up 203 back to back wins and became the player to beat.

The event did grab the attention of the Snooker world in 2020 however as local favourite Judd Trump defeated the Australian superstar Neil Robertson by 9-8 in a match that ebbed a flowed throughout.

Thankfully, there is now a simpler and in our opinion better way to watch live Snooker from tournaments such as the English Open live online, with all of the great live streaming services that are featured on this page allowing you to pick and choose the matches form the tournament that you want to watch.

No matter if you want to watch the opener or the final or the lowest rank players to the number 1 ranked player, you can do just that.

No matter if you tournament is been played at EventCity in Manchester, the Metrodome Sports Center in Barnsley, the K2 Arena in Crawley or at its temporary location in Milton Keynes, the whole of the English Open snooker tournament can be watch live online.

The quality of participants to take part in any tournament can arguably be best judged by those who make it through to the final as whilst with the new set up of 128 players at the majority of event means that the top stars are at every tournament, not all take everyone seriously and that can lead to early excites but that certainly hasn’t been the case at this event with the likes of the Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Selby and Neil Robertson all making it through to finals of the English Open Snooker event.

Pick and choose the action that you want to watch from the English Open Snooker tournament by watching live online via the live stream services featured on this page.
