Snooker World Grand Prix

The World Grand Prix is a professional Snooker tournament that has been on the tour ever since the 2014-2015 season.

Despite the name of the event, which perhaps gives an insight into the aspirations of the sport under its new leadership rather than the reality of things as the tournament has only ever been hosted in the UK and it has been dominated by English players.

The tournament offers a decent if not spectacular total prize fund and winners cheque but as a full ranking event, the great news is that it still attracts all of the top stars in sport, especially as unlike most other events, only the 22 players based on a world rankings, are eligible to play, subject to injury and availability of course.

With fewer players at the tournament, the prize fund does go further but from a fans of point of view, it means there are less one sided matches and the players have to be at their absolute best from the off.

That helps the tournament give some great action and lots of must watch match ups and that is exactly what you can do via the Snooker live streaming services featured on this page.

The inaugural event was held in 2015 at the Venue Cymru in the North Eales seaside town and holiday resort of Llandudno.

This event was a trial of sorts and was run as a non-ranking event but it still attracted top stars and still had a high class final played between Judd Trump (England) who defeated The Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan (England) by 10 frames to 7to pick up the first World Grand Prix title.

The next edition of the tournament was also held on the Welsh coast but this time it was a full ranking event.

The 2016 final also saw an all English final, with Shaun Murphy defeating Stuart Bingham in an exciting final that came down to the deciding frame.

In 2017, the tournament up sticks and moved to the Lancashire town of Preston and the Guild Hall for 2 years.

The first Preston edition saw Barry Hawkins (England) defeat Ryan Day (Wales) by 10 frames to 7, with the second edition held in 2018 seeing Ronnie O’Sullivan (England) defeat Ding Junhui (China) by 10 frames to 3.

Things were soon on the moved once more with The Centaur, at the iconic Cheltenham Racecourse, hosting the event from 2019.

The 2019 edition of the World Grand Prix saw Judd Trump (England) defeat Ali Carter (England) by 10 frames to 6.

The second event held in The Cotswolds saw the first non-English winner when Neil Robertson (Australia) defeated Graeme Dott (Scotland) by 10 frames to 8.

As with the majority of tournaments held during the 2020-21 season, the tournament made the move to Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes and saw another all English final as Judd Trump defeated Jack Lisowski by 10 frames to 7.

Interestingly, that meant that the event had 2 editions held in the same year as the final Cheltenham edition of the event happened late on in the 2019-20 season whilst the Milton Keynes edition was held early in the 2020-21 season, which meant both tournaments were played in 2020.

Whilst some of the great action from the World Grand Prix can be seen on British television, it can often be frustrating experience trying to find the event and even if you do come across it, not all of the matches are often showed from tournaments such as this one.

That can often lead fans to miss the match that they are most interested in but thankfully there is now a way to watch great Snooker action from the World Grand Prix live and to be able to pick and choose to watch the action that you want to watch.
