Watch ATP Rio Open

The Rio Open is a professional tennis tournament that features on the men’s ATP Tour where it is a ATP World Tour 500 Series ranked event.

The tournament is the only event held in South America that has the 500 Series ranking which makes it one of, if not the, biggest tournament in the region and that allows it to attract many of the world’s biggest stars despite the fact that this is still a relatively new tournament having only been established in 2014.

There had previously been a WTA Tour event held alongside the ATP event but that was discontinued in 2016.

Matches at the ATP Rio Open are played on outdoor clay courts at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in the city of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.

With so many ranking points on offer at the ATP Rio coupled with a large prize fund, the event is able to attract the biggest stars on the ATP Tour as well as many clay court specialists from around the world. That gives us some entertaining tennis, with potential shocks throughout.

The first ever winner of the Rio Open was Rafael Nadal with the victory for the King of Clay just highlighting the talent on offer at the event.

Despite that it can be difficult to watch the ATP Rio Open live on tv, especially without an expensive TV subscription, but the good news for fans is that you can watch all of the action from the Rio Open live online via our live streaming partners.

ATP Rio de Janeiro

The Rio Open, also known as the ATP Rio de Janeiro is a professional tennis tournament on the men’s ATP Tour where all of the action comes from the Jockey Club Brasileiro in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

The tournament was a trailblazers of South American tournament son the ATP Tour and it remains one of the most important tennis tournaments on the tour to be held on the continent, so it is no surprise that the event attracts lots of stars from across the globe to battle against the best of talent form the continent to try and win one of the prestigious title in South America and also one of the largest prize funds and winners cheque in the continent.

The Rio Open is both a relatively new tournament and also an historic one as there was a former tournament of the same name held between 1989-90 when the event featured on the ATP World Series and the action was played on an indoor carpet surface.

The tournament was established in 2014 and the great news for the event was that it really started with a bang and it also announced itself to the wider sporting world when icon of the sport Rafael Nadal not only played at the inaugural event but he also went on to pick up the first title in Rio by defeating Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine.

Other winners of the tournament down the years includes such as household names as David Ferrer (of Spain who own the 2015 edition), Pablo Cuevas (of Uruguay who own the 2016 edition), Dominic Thiem (of Austria who won the 2017 edition) and Diego Schwartzman (of Argentina who won the 2018 edition).

The 2022 edition of the event was won by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain who defeated Diego Schwartman in straight sets but all of the British interest was in the men’s double final where Jamie Murray and partners Bruno Soares of Brazil came up just short in the final in a losing effort against the Italian duo of Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini.

As you can see from names above, the line up at the tournament mostly consists of Clay Court specialists and that helps the tournament offer fans some great tennis action that is a must watch for clay court fans.

As with the majority of tournaments on the men’s ATP Tour, the Rio Open also features a doubles event alongside the singles event and you can watch all of that great action live as well.

For the first 3 years of the tournaments existence, it was run as a combined event between the ATP Tour and the WTA Tour with both a women’s singles and doubles event also featuring.

The winners of the women’s singles event were Jurmi Nara (of Japan who won the inaugural event and therefore the first title), Sara Errani (or Italy) and Francesca Schiavone (also of Italy).

Unfortunately, the women’s tournament ended after the 2016 and was replaced on the tour by the Hungarian Open.

If you are a tennis fan you will know that it can be a frustrating experience trying to watch action from tournaments such as this live on tv as even if you have a subscription to pay tv sports channels that show live tennis, only a select number of matches will be shown.

That means that fans often miss out on their favourite player or on the match up they were looking forward to the most but thankfully you can now watch all of the great action that you want to watch.

All of the live streaming services of the online bookmakers featured on this page allow you to watch the action live from the Rio Open and whilst you do need to be aged 18 or over and have a funded account, you can then watch live tennis not just from this tournament but also from events held across the globe all year long.
