ATP Bastad
On the men’s side of the draw, the tournament is an ATP World Tour 250 Series Level event but despite that relatively low ranking and its relatively low prize fund, the history and prestige of the tournament and the fact that it is one of the leading events in Scandinavia helps to make sure that there is a decent line up in attendance.
The event has always attracted stars from across the world with the first 3 editions won by Eric Sturgess of South Africa, before Felicisimo Ampon of the Philippines won in 1951.
The next 4 editions were won by Budge Patty and Ham Richardson of the United States of America, with Ken Rosewall becoming the first Australian winner in 1956 before the first home winner of the event was crowned in 1957 when Ulf Schmidt defeated compatriot Sven Davidson.
Ever since then the tournament has continued to be won by stars from across the globe, especially during the Open Era.
One method of easily seeing the quality of an event is to look through the players who have gone on to win the title at it and that is certainly true for the ATP Bastad where winners have including the likes of Ilie Nastase (Romania), Bjorn Borg (Sweden), Mats Wilander (Sweden), Magnus Gustafsson (Sweden), Carlos Moya (Spain), Rafael Nadal (Spain), David Ferrer (Spain), Robin Soderling (Sweden) and Pablo Cuevas (Uruguay).
The tournament didn’t take place in 2020, the first season it missed since it start up, but it did return with a bang on the ATP side with Casper Ruud winning the 2021 title.
It was relative unknown Francisco Cerundolo who pulled off a shock win in 2022 in an all-Argentine final against Sebastian Baez.
As with the majority of tournaments on the ATP Tour, the ATP Bastad also includes a doubles event that you can also watch along live via the tennis live streaming services on this page.
The doubles event features a good mix of both doubles specialists and singles players doing double duty and whilst it has been Swedish stars who have enjoyed the most success down the years but over the past decade or so, this has also seen success for players from across the globe.

WTA Bastad
The women’s side of the event is known as the WTA Bastad where it is a WTA 125k Series level event, which again is one of the lowest rankings on the world tour and it also offers a low prize fund for those participating but just as with the mans side of the draw, the women’s event still manages to attract many household names and offers some great action for tennis fans to enjoy.
The women’s event also started in 1948 and whilst it was Scandinavian star Hilde Speerling of Denmark who won the inaugural event, the tournament also started with players from across the globe enjoying success with winners from Australia (Thelma Long and Nancye Wynne Bolton), South Africa (Hazel Redick-Smith), the united States of America (Maureen Connolly and Doris Hart) all winning the tournament in the first decade of finals.
The first home success also came during that period when Birgit Sanden defeating Milly Vagn-Nielsen (Denmark) in the 1954 final whilst the first British success came in 1956 when Angela Buxton defeated Swedish star Birgit Sanden.
The tournament has seen lots of famous names and iconic players play at the event including the likes of Sue Barker (Britain) and Serena Williams who have won the title in Bastad.
Just as on the ATP side of the raw, the WTA Bastad event also features a doubles competition which also features a good mix doubles specialists and singles players playing on both sides of the event.
Unfortunately, the tournament did not feature any action from the women’s tour between 1991-2008 but since then the WTA Tour event has become established once more.
The last few years has seen an on-off nature of the WTA event with Katerina Siniakova winning in 2017, with no event in 2018 before Misaki Doi won in 2019 before the event once again didn’t take place in 2020.
On its return in 2021, it was Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz who picked up the title with South Korea’s Jang Su-jeong winning.
